Horsey Halloween

It’s a few days late, but thought we should still share this creative pumpkin carving for Halloween. In case you can’t tell, it’s a girl kissing a horse. Nothing frightening about that at all. Thanks to Dana Tallman of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, for sharing her work.

World Show pattern book

A quick note from the ApHC Performance Department — the 2009 World Show Pattern Book is now available online. Click on the home-page “show” button, then go to the World Show page.

Might be a good time to offer my/our appreciation to all the folks in the office. With World Show qualifying reports, invitations, entries and a raft of other show preparation details, everyone has pitched in and worked together to make things happen in Fort Worth.

World Sale catalog

The almost-finished version of the 2009 World Sale catalog is now available on the appaloosa.com website. Click on the sale icon at the bottom of the home page and then the pdf file. The updated,final edition should be posted sometime Monday.

The Miracle Chip lost in tragic barn fire

Word has spread quickly within and beyond the Appaloosa community that 2006 Medallion Performance Sire of the Year, The Miracle Chip, was lost in a barn fire this past Sunday. Michelle Cianflone, owner of “Tommy,” reports that three horses were rescued from the blaze, but the stallion could not be reached.

As explained on the Tumalo Cascade Equine Center website, The Miracle Chip is the only horse in the history of the ApHC to win championships at the National, World and Solid Gold shows in two-year-old Western Pleasure. The 1989 stallion was sired by Zips Chocolate Chip (AQHA) and out of Bright Lites Lady (ApHC). He has sired a number of champions and the loss is significant for the breed.

Our condolences to Michelle, her family and to the many owners of Tommy’s sons and daughters.

The 62nd National Appaloosa Show is underway. This scene is of exhibitors heading back to the barns after Non-Pro Most Colorful class. We can’t help mentioning that the temp reached 100 today, just one degree shy of the very old record. ApHC folks seem to be coping fairly well. Hydration is the buzzword for the week!

09 Apalousey Trail Ride

The 12th annual Apalousey Trail Ride with Dutch oven dinner is set for August 7-9. It’s held at the Pony Club grounds on George Hatley’s ranch near Deary, Idaho. The facility includes one of the prettiest, privately owned, horse-oriented campgrounds you’ll ever see. Proceeds from the ride and dinner will benefit the Appaloosa Museum & Heritage Center.

Details about the schedule, cost and other activities can be found at appaloosamusum.org. If you can’t make the trip, think about a contribution to the event or to the museum anyway.

Despite the fact that I have photos of the scenic trail, the Dutch ovens and the great food seem to be highlights for many of us.
